AI governance glossary

AI gateway

An AI gateway mediates traffic between applications or agents and AI services so configured controls can be applied along the request path.

Why it matters

A gateway can provide a consistent enforcement point for model requests, identity, policy, budgets, and evidence across supported workflows.

How it works

The gateway receives or routes AI traffic and applies configured checks before passing requests onward. Capabilities depend on the gateway path and enabled controls.

How Halo approaches it

Halo’s model gateway governs agent model traffic. An AI gateway for external ingress from an organization’s own applications is in Preview.
